Well, this is embarrassing.

When I wrote the preview for tonight's game this morning, I didn't give the Calgary Flames much of a chance. Neither did the odds-makers or really anybody else in the hockey world. I mean, the Flames were in the back-end of a back to back, in the midst of both a flu bug and a six-game road trip, and were going to be without three regulars (David Jones, Deryk Engelland and Lance Bouma) due to injury. How could they beat a healthy and rested powerhouse Chicago Blackhawks club?

Jonas Hiller, that's how. In a response to Karri Ramo's excellent game 24 hours previous, the Swiss product went into Chicago and, much like Chicago was stymied by Reto Berra last November, Hiller utterly baffled the Blackhawks and Calgary won 2-1 in overtime.

Good news, everybody! The Calgary Flames are back at the .500 mark after a really fun 3-2 shootout win in Nashville. The Preds were well-rested, but the Calgary side played a strong 60 minutes, got great goaltending from Karri Ramo and generally were pretty damn solid.

Bad news, everybody! Now the Flames go into Chicago to play the Blackhawks, an even more well-rested and just disgustingly stacked hockey team.

It's a measuring stick game tonight at the United Center! 6pm! Sportsnet national feed! (Sportsnet West and regional channels if you're outside of Alberta!)

The Calgary Flames continued their epic six-game road trip tonight in the Music City, with a match-up at Bridgestone Arena against the Nashville Predators. After a hard-fought, fairly-even 60 minutes of hockey it all came down to the shootout, and the Flames left Tennessee with a 3-2 victory. Their record for the season has been evened-out at 2-2-0.

Here's how things went down tonight in Nashville.

FGD #4: A Trip to Music City (6pm; SN360)

After two days off to give thanks for the points they have already received - two, via the Oilers - the Flames are in the Music City of Nashville, Tennessee tonight to visit the Predators.

The Flames have had three games worth of good third periods, but haven't really played a full 60 minutes yet this year. That's bad, as playing a good 20 minutes will only apparently beat Edmonton - and that took Edmonton rolling over in the third. Granted, it's early, but the Flames really need a full 60, especially if they're going to bail out their goalies; Hiller and Ramo have been good-to-excellent thus far, but the club has just a single win to show for it. In the midst of a six-game road trip, the team will need a more complete effort to survive.

The puck drops at 6pm, and you can catch the action on Sportsnet 960 The Fan or on Sportsnet 360.
