Hockey is just that much closer with the opening of camp today, and it appears from a distance that the Alberta weather is providing a proper atmosphere for the proceedings. At any rate, in this week's review of what was, the Flame youngsters finish their work in the Okanagan, the big kids report for work absent one significant figure, and the RFAs of note get contracts finalized.

The team designations are meaningful, as group A features mostly NHLers and veteran AHLers (including Cam Cunning and Mikael Backlund). Group B, on the other hand, is all kids and hopefuls, including new guys Steffan Meyer (D), JP Lamoreaux (G) and try-out Giffen Nyren (D).

John Down reports today that the Flames have sent many of their junior players back to their respective clubs. Leach, Reinhart, Holland and Bennett all played minor roles in the prospect tournament, which is not uncommon for 18 and 19 year olds. Also goiing back to junior is Cam Lanigan, who was released by the Flames without being inked. That Lanigan didn't stick with the organization is no surprise either after the youngster allowed a few softies against the Vancouver kids.
