The Chicago Blackhawks haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 49 years. Since they last hoisted the “toughest trophy in sports to win” they’ve lost in the Finals five times: 1962, 1965, 1971, 1973 and 1992. They made the playoffs 28 consecutive years from 1970 to 1997, so it’s not like they were awful, but hockey’s holy grail hasn’t come close to the Windy City for a long time.

"In his draft year, he is 20th in the WHL in scoring, but more impressive to me is he is seventh in the WHL in plus-minus. That means, as a 17-year-old centerman, he is playing against other team's number one lines night in, night out.  He is a playmaking center who looks to get his wingers the puck and he has very good on-ice vision and creativity."

That was Spokane Chiefs Head Coach Bill Peters commenting on Wahl back in 2008. I've made no secret of the fact that I think highly of the only player selected in the second round by Darryl Sutter and Peters remarks above highlight - I like guys who can play against the best and excel and Wahl has apparently done that for years for the Spokane Chiefs.

Scratch another name from the rumor pile. The Tampa Bay Lightning are calling a press conference today to announce that Steve Yzerman, a man frequently connected to the Flames in past week, has been hired as the club's GM.

Calgary Flames vs Vancouver Canucks

I was thinking about this while having a conversation with a friend of mine who happens to have the unfortunate trait of cheering for the Vancouver Canucks. He was arguing about how much better shape the Canucks are than the Calgary Flames, and it hit me... the Canucks aren't really all that far off from being in a similar situation than the Flames.
