Tyler Seguin: What If?

It was June 29th, the eve of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. I was sitting comfortably on my couch, watching the always excellent TSN panel preview the draft and discuss potential trades that were brewing then.

Carolina was shopping their 5th overall pick and were looking for a defenseman in return. Vancouver was working on trading a goaltender (wrongly presumed by many, including myself, to be Luongo) and the Bruins were in serious discussions with a few teams in regards to dealing Tyler Seguin. Oh yeah, and the Flames were one of the teams in on the former 2nd overall pick.

Post-Game: Flames Win! Flames Win!

After a sub-par effort in Anaheim against the Ducks, the Calgary Flames headed to Los Angeles hoping for a better result, particularly with the team's dads along for the road trip. With a few line-up changes (Karri Ramo, Shane O'Brien and Paul Byron in; Reto Berra, Chris Breen and Sven Baertschi out), the Flames hoped to jump-start their club.

The game ended up being a tight-checking, physical affair. But the Flames brought their working boots, especially compared to their game in Anaheim, and skated away with a 2-1 victory on the road.

FGD: Ramo - First Blood Part II

November 30 2013 12:04PM

And we're right back at it, Citizens.

After an, uh, underwhelming performance against the Ducks of Anaheim who still thrive off playing your Calgary Flames since that day in 2004 when then Duck and fledgling wizard Ilya Bryzgalov placed a curse on the Flames decreeing that they would never win in Anaheim again, the team travels about 10 feet southeast to the Staples Center to face off against the Los Angeles Kings.

Ah yes, California. The place where dreams are born, made and crushed. Sunshine, wineries, Hollywood stars, eating disorders, hybrid cars, breast implants and quality hockey teams permeate the lush landscape of the Pacific West Coast, and it's the back end of a quick road trip for the Flames (and their fathers!), one which we're unsure of if they want to end.

As Flames fans who are not on the trip and getting to experience the state, we do. We want it to end.

Post-Game: Duck Dynasty

January 19th, 2004, a simpler time. The jerseys, baggy. The goaltenders, bloated. The Flames, loveable. A time when men were men and most of the Edmonton Oilers were teething. This was the date of the last Flames victory in Anaheim.
18-straight games. Some of those were close games with dramatic late-game heartbreaks. Some games, the Flames deserved better but couldn’t beat a hot goalie, or hit too many posts, or were the victim of the hockey gods.

This was not one of those games.

FGD: Looking for a Deal in Disneyland

The day after American Thanksgiving is best known as Black Friday, a day where bargain-hunters wake up early to hunt for deals. The Calgary Flames (8-12-4) are no different, as they're up early in Orange County for a 2pm MT matinee date with the Anaheim Ducks (17-7-3), and it's not even the earliest hockey game of the day. It's on Sportsnet's various media properties. The Flames' bad record in the Honda Center is the stuff of legend, as they haven't won in 17 visits to Anaheim. The last visit preceded their run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.

Moreover, the Flames are suddenly mired in a streak of bad luck, both on the ice and off. Blown leads, bad starts and a rash of injuries have left Calgary reeling. A win in Anaheim would go a long way towards keeping morale on an upward tick.
