After a few days off, the Calgary Flames (18-27-7) attempt to finally win three games in a row for the first time this season. Three previous times, the Flames have won a pair. On all three occasions, they lost their next game. Their latest attempt at a three-game streak comes at home against a team they've had a few battles with this year, the defending Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks (32-10-12).
This is the third and final meeting between these two clubs this year. The home team has won each game by a 3-2 score – the first in Chicago was Reto Berra's excellent debut, the second in Calgary featured the Flames blowing a 2-0 lead with three third-period goals. You may also recall an excellent game between the two clubs last season where the Flames almost derailed the Hawks winning streak in its infancy before the Hawks won a thriller in OT.
The Hawks are reeling, having lost two in a row – and boasting just two regulation wins in their last six outings. A Flames/Hawks game could be just what each team has in mind to either continue their play or right their ship, as the case may be. The puck drops at 7:30pm MT and is the last TSN telecast from the Saddledome for quite awhile.

The Olympic Winter Games in Russia are approaching, with just two weeks of NHL play separating us from world-class hockey. It's at a weird time of day, but it's still the Olympics. The Calgary Flames continue to trudge through the first year of their re-build, and actually had a pretty sold week.

Folks, enjoy your Sunday with a great guest post by frequent commenter Maimster!
With all of the discussions about Brian Burke over the past few months (and in particular since he fired Jay Feaster), I wanted to answer a basic question – Has Brian Burke proven to be a good general manager? My long term goal is to look at Burke’s complete record, analyzing his moves and performance not only in retrospect, but also in the moment to try and determine his motivation and mindset over the years.
However, that will take me a while. So, I thought I’d start with Burke’s most successful work – the building of the 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks into a Stanley Cup winner
Let’s dive in.

I hope the Flames can trade O'Brien at the deadline. For anything.— Kent Wilson (@Kent_Wilson) January 25, 2014
I made that comment last night after Shane O'Brien needlessly gave the puck away in the Flames zone leading to the Predators 3rd goal. O'Brien played just 5 minutes versus Nashville, but ended up -3 anyways.

Flames' rookie Sean Monahan has been the talk of Flames Town for much of the 2013-14 season. He was selected in the 2013 draft 6th overall by the Flames and made the team immediately out of camp. He did not disappoint in his first few months in the league, putting up 15 points in roughly 20 games. His game has trailed off since then but he's still contributing on a Flames team that doesn't score very much. In fact, he's leading this Flames team in goals with his 14 on the season.
