In the wake of the Stanley Cup finals and the build-up to the NHL Entry Draft, I completely forgot to post the final standings for the Nation Network’s playoff prediction contest.

Of Calgary's main roster players last season, defenceman Brendan Mikkelson is the lone pending restricted free agent to worry about. Playing just 19 games with the Flames this year, the team needs to decide whether they see the former Anaheim second round pick ever being capable of playing regular minutes on the blueline. Mikkelson certainly struggled throughout last season, and certainly hasn't shown me anything to prove he's worthy of a one way contract this time around.

It takes a lot go get NationRadio on the air every week. Technology, entertaining guests and of course the legendary Lowetide.
This week Mark Lamb makes an appearance on the show, as does Scott Reynolds from Copper and Blue, Kirk Luedeke, Kent Simpson, Matt Bugg and Jason Gregor.
This is NationRadio.

And, we're done. The on-ice portion of the NHL season has ended after 8 1/2 months with a new champion. For the rest of the league, that means business off-ice is about to pick up, and as a non-fan of the two finalists, not a minute too soon. In this collection of newsworthy bits from around the league, the Flames continue to bolster their staff, the champs are feted, and recriminations from the aftermath of Wednesday's events on the West Coast begin.

I am mostly convinced the Flames should expend their first round pick on a forward this year. The forwards corps of this org are rather dismal outside of one or two bright spots, and even those guys aren't guaranteed to be impact guys in the NHL. In fact, I'd say you can count the number of forwards who project to be consistent top-6 producers on no hands, if you catch my drift.
