Only one thing is certain as debate continues over whether Sean Monahan stays with the Flames past his ninth game or heads back to junior to resume his role as captain of the Ottawa 67s - whatever the Calgary Flames braintrust decides, it will be based on Monahan’s development as a hockey player, and not the team’s financial bottom line. It will have nothing to do with a contract that is at least three years away from being negotiated.

Get Rid of Chris Butler

It is technically way too early in the year to be writing something like this. Just six games in, we don't have very much info about anyone on the club. It's entirely possible any of the trends we're seeing right now will reverse themselves over the long-term.

But I don't care. I've seen enough of Chris Butler. Send him packing.

A look at the start of Johnny Gaudreau's season

(Ryan attended Boston College's most recent game. Here are his thoughts on the play of BIll Arnold, John Gaudreau and BC in general)

It didn't take Johnny Gaudreau long to make an impact in his first home game of the year. Just 2:03 into the contest against RPI he carried the puck into the attacking zone, moved the puck through the legs of the first defender he encountered then chipped it over the stick of the next, finding linemate Kevin Hayes, who shed a defender of his own and deked around Jason Kasdorf to put BC up 1-0 (see .gif above).

FGD: Duck Sauce

October 16 2013 10:54AM

It took me longer to make that image than it really should have. Shut up.

Well friends, brothers, sisters, Citizens, after what seemed like an eternity, but was really only 5 nights, which in a hockey season is an eternity, your Calgary Flames are back at it tonight, in the frozen barren hinterland of Southern California, to take on long time Pacific Division rival, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones Ducks of Anaheim. This game kicks off a 5 game swing through the Left Coast, and I'm going to go ahead and unofficially dub this road trip as "Sean Watch". 4 of these 5 games, assuming Sean Monahan plays them all, will ring up the game tally to nine games and ultimately decide if his short term future will be spent donning the silks of the Flaming C, or rocking a Team Canada jersey this holiday season and hopefully getting traded away from the abysmal Ottawa 67's and off to greener, more Memorial Cup-ey pastures in the OHL.
