It' about friggin time.  There are few things that are more fun to be a part of than a Flames-Canucks game at the 'Dome, and the first meeting between the teams is finally here (7:30 pm, TSN and The FAN 960).  The Flames have won two of their last three games following a 3-0 win over the Minnesota Wild on Monday.

It's been a long time coming, but tonight is the Flames first look at the 2010-11 Vancouver Canucks. The divisions putative champions are mostly the same team that ran away with things last year. Although the start of the season hasn't been quite smooth sailing, they doubtlessly remain at the head of the class.

The Stuff That's Gone Right

It's been a rough 20-odd games for Flames fans. Aspirations of the club striking last year from our collective memories with a definitely strong opening to the season were dashed almost immediately when the Edmonton Oilers (the worst team in the league) objectively outplayed Calgary in the opening game. Fast forward six weeks and the Flames are looking up at the rest of the conference, with the spectre of a near .600 win % required to simply slip into the post-season as an 8th seed haunting the club's every game.

So there's been lots of complaining and gnashing of teeth. That's my default position, frankly, but even the optimistic have been mostly disheartened through the early going here.

Granting that stuff, the fact is - it's not all bad. There are some positives to take from the Flames first 24 games, even if the overall picture is a gray one.

It's funny how perception changes...you could look at Calgary's five game road trip and say they lost four of five games, or you could look more recently and see two wins in three games.  Regardless, the Flames took a 3-0 win Monday night over the Minnesota Wild as Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves to post his 37th career shutout.
