Calgary Flames: 2 -- Rene Bourque, Craig 'FREAKING' Conroy [GWG]
Los Angeles Kings: 1 -- Scott Parse
After a disappointing day for three Canadian defenceman who regularly wear the flaming 'C', the Flames looked to make it two in a row. Dion Phaneuf took out his frustration early as he laid out Anze Kopitar as the two raced back for a loose puck. Kopitar's helmet flew off as his head hit the dasher boards on his way down. He remained on the ice for a few minutes before leaving on his own power and returning the very next shift. Phaneuf on the other hand, was given a five minute major for boarding and a game misconduct. At one point, it looked like coaches Brent Sutter and Terry Murray may "throw down" as the two exchanged Christmas pleasantries, leading Murray to send out Kings meathead Raitis Ivanans to goon it up for a shift (where he promptly took an elbowing penalty and started a bit of a melee).

With both the Canadian and Finnish roster's being announced today, it was a big day for several Flames Olympic hopefuls. Flames captain Jarome Iginla was a lock for the Canadian team, but Jay Bouwmeester appeared to be a "bubble" player and fellow defencemen Dion Phaneuf and Robyn Regher appeared to be longshots at best. On the Finnish side, big center Olli Jokinen and goalie Miikka Kiprusoff appeared shoe-ins, but with Kipper's statement earlier this year about only going if he was named the starter, there was some doubt.

This is traditionally the time to look back at the year and/or decade that has just passed and lacking the imagination to do otherwise, we will do the same here.

Calgary Flames: 4 -- Rene Bourque (3) [GWG], Mark Giordano
Edmonton Oilers: 1 -- Ryan Potulny
The Edmonton Oilers have become the ugly girl at the bar. And the Calgary Flames are the guy that's had a run of bad luck, striking out with any girl that's looked his way recently. Well, sometimes you just gotta nut up and take the ugly girl home. Slumpbuster's aren't often pretty (the Flames were out-shot 35-23), but they're a "notch" on the belt, and at the end of the day that's all that matter's.
