The NHL season, which often has the aura of a forced march during the regular year, is a just a week away at most from being complete. Where the hell did the time go? It just seemed like yesterday when people were questioning Roberto Luongo and wondering if Ryan Kesler would start scoring like he had earlier in the year. Oh, wait, that was yesterday. Silly me. At any rate, it’s time again for a review of NHL news local and otherwise. This week, the Flames sign a young defender, the Finals head back to B.C. and some hockey team sold some tickets.

The native of Langenthal Switzerland exploded onto the WHL scene as a rookie this year, scoring 34 goals and 85 points in just 66 games for the Portland Winterhawks. Although not the biggest winger at 5'10" and 185 pounds, Bartschi nevertheless finished fifteenth in the league scoring (one place ahead of Flames prospect Ryan Howse).

According to the Flames official twitter, the club has re-signed Brett Carson to a new, two-year deal. Incredibly, the official release also states the official terms of the deal (!): $550k, $600 for a cap hit of $575k.

Having been outscored 12-1 in the past two ice hockey matches and now tied in the series at two games apiece. That dead quiet you hear on the West Coast tonight is the shocked silence of hard core Canucks fans and the vacuum of tens of thousands of bandwagon fans who have suddenly disappeared.
