The Minnesota Wild make their first appearance in Calgary tonight as the Flames return home from a lackluster five game road trip through the Eastern Conference where they went 1-2-2 (7 pm, Sportsnet Flames and The FAN 960).  Overall, the Flames find themselves three games below .500 once again, and they're four back of the Wild who sit third in the Northwest Divison.

The Flames head back to action this evening against the Wild, after getting a lengthy trip east out of the way and managing to do so without any casualties. Tonight, Calgary hosts a squad that is absolutely hanging on because of their powerplay and goaltending.

I know this is a Calgary Flames site, but I'm just home from Edmonton after watching the 98th Grey Cup...and seeing as how the result saw the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose, I thought I'd post some pictures of the experience for the Flames fans who can't stand that shade of green.  The final score saw Montreal take out Saskatchewan 21-18; the Alouettes won their second consecutive Grey Cup.

I always had the feeling that the dog days of a NHL season were from around Christmas to the trade deadline, but this year, at least for those of us that follow Calgary's fortunes, it seems that they're already in place. Regardless, the round-up returns for another week, full of Grey Cup cheer, or something along those lines. In this installment, the Flames finish a lengthy sojourn with their worst performance of the trip, one of the club's prospects imitates a Flame in entirely the wrong manner, and the first faint rumblings of off-ice change are felt in Western New York.

Our Kent Wilson commented on today's FGD by saying the Penguins have "limited depth up front, but Crosby is so good it almost doesn't matter."  How prophetic are those words?  The Calgary Flames finished a five game road trip with a 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh, but it wasn't JUST Crosby on Saturday.  The Penguins were the better team start to finish and once again, a late Calgary push wouldn't be enough against a red hot opponent.
