The Calgary Flames play their first game of the post-Darryl Sutter era tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome as they'll take on the Colorado Avalanche for the third time this season (7 pm, Sportsnet West and The FAN 960).  The Flames look for a third straight win against a Northwest Division foe; an opponent coming off an exciting shootout win in Edmonton the night before.

In a departure from recent matters concerning the Flames, we actually get to discuss a real hockey game today, and it's convenient that our old pals the Avalanche are in town, since I suspect a few folks might like to see the Flames emulate Colorado's approach to team building. I'm not quite sure I buy that, but the Denver outfit is an improving team that has given Calgary fits the last year and a half.

Whither Feaster?

As the team prepares to return to it's normal game routine tomorrow, we'll nevertheless continue to ruminate on the future of the franchise post-Sutter around here.*

*never fear, we will indeed continue to do the gameday stuff as well.

The topic of Feaster and his ostensible role as "interim" GM came up immediately when I appeared on Jason Gregor's radio show the other day. Gregor asked me why the Flames would install Feaster as a manager, but burden him with trying to turn the franchise around without the full responsibilities - and requisite powers - of an NHL general manager. I didn't have an adequate answer.
