It's that time again. Flames face the Crosby-less Penguins tonight. That sounds like a boon, but this is the club that managed 100+ points without both Sid the Kid and Malkin in the line-up for large portions of the season last. Pittsburgh has some of the biggest names in the game, but that sometimes overshadows the fact that they have one of the strongest overall squads in the league from top-to-bottom.
No easy win tonight, even with Crosby on the sidelines.

After far too long a summer, after weeks of training camp, after six preseason games, and after a nine day break, it's finally time to start the season for the Calgary Flames. Every game matters. It's the motto for the team this year, and after missing the playoffs by just three points one year ago, it's something that rings truer than ever. To open the season, the Flames welcome the PIttsburgh Penguins (8 pm, CBC and Sportsnet 960).

The Summer doldrums are over. The air is already starting to chill and the trees are shedding their leaves. That means it's time to start another hockey season. We've done the summer previews, the analyses and the roundtables. Before the puck drops on the Flames new year, though, I want to take some time to describe what FlamesNation readers can expect out of the site this year.
