GDFD No. 54: Quack quack quack quack quack, Mr. Ducksworth

Welcome to the sixth Game Day Fire Drill, for this, Calgary’s 54th game of the season on Feb. 11, 2009.

Ugh these guys again. Remember all that stuff from my last GDFD featuring the Ducks?

It’s a sad state of affairs indeed that finds that Ducks coming into Calgary with a record barely above .500 and still somehow fifth in the Western Conference. One supposes that it speaks to the overall quality of the top four teams versus that of the remainder of the pack, but screw it.

All that more or less still applies. So yeah.

The Calgary Flames (31-18-4 for 66 points. Tied for third in the West, first in the Northwest) and the Anaheim Ducks (27-24-5 for 59 points. Six in the West, third in the Pacific)

8 p.m. Mountain time and 10 p.m. Eastern time. All other time zones should buy a new Rubik’s Cube.

Honda Center, Anaheim, California.

Calgary is 11-11-1 on the road this year, but they’ve lost three in a row away from Calgary. But the good news is that Anaheim is barely above .500 at home (14-11-3), but one of those wins was against the Flames, 3-2, on Nov. 2.

What (to hate about the Ducks):

Named after a kids’ movie — Enjoy the movies all you like, but this is like if someone named a basketball team after the Looney Tunes in SpaceJam. They didn’t even have the smarts to draft that Adam Banks kid. He was unreal.

Anaheim — It’s like L.A., only a lot crummier. It’s also in Orange County, which locals now unironically refer to as “The O.C.”

The Iowa Chops — Another embarrassing team name. They were also one of several teams to host Sarah Palin in the run-up to the US presidential election. Guilt by association.

Saturday’s game — Sucked.

Corey Perry — Dickburger with cheese.

Because. Enjoy the game and feel free to fart around in the comments section!

I couldn't help but notice that your hockey team seems to have lost it's last game. Would you like to borrow one of the seven goals that the Oil managed to blow by Price?

Can we trade you for some of that breathing room you seem to always have in the standings around this time of year?

Scrapping for 8th as per usual

I fully expect they will respond tomorrow and hopefully finally give Mcelhinny the support he needs to get his first W.

Im not a Flames fan and I dont claim to be, that said, it doesn't take a rocket scientist, which I am not, to figure out that Kiprusoff will get the start tonight. The Kings have been playing good as of late, Kiprusoff had a really good game against the Ducks, and if you are thinking Kiprusoff is getting tired, doesn't he usually play 65-70 games?
