Flames Trade Jaffray for Logan Macillan

The strangeness continues in Flamesland today. Just coming down on the Twitterwire right now is news that the Flames have traded journeyman AHLer Jason Jaffray to the Anaheim Ducks for former first rounder Logan MacMillan. While that sounds impressive, the truth is MacMillan’s stock has fallen significantly since he was selected 19th overall in 2007.

Nigel Dawes on Waivers

According to a tweet by Kevin Allen of USA today, Nigel Dawes has been placed on waivers by the Calgary Flames. Unlike Kotalik, Dawes has been placed on unconditional waivers according to Bob McKenzie, meaning he is eligible to be bought out.

The recent decision by Flames management to put Ales Kotalik on waivers has sparked a debate among the fans of this franchise.

June 30 News and Notes

Our nation’s 143rd birthday is just a day away and since the start of the NHL’s free agency period is now as much a part of that occasion for hockey fans as fireworks and bad face-paintings of maple leafs, it seems like a good time for the round-up. This week, the Flames waive Ales Kotalik,…

Trade Most Likely Path to Offense

If there’s any consensus about the Flames current situation, it’s that the club lacks offense. Let’s be more specific and say that the lacks club high-end difference makers, especially with the way Iginla struggled to take on the big boys last year. While I’m actually fairly high on some of the Flames depth guys (Glencross,…

The Monday Wrap

A busy day for the Calgary Flames has fans talking about two key issues…what’s next for Ales Kotalik?  And where are things going with Ian White?  That’s because the Flames placed Kotalik on waivers while White was among restricted free agents qualified by the team.

Prospect Profiles – Maxwell Reinhart

I’m going to limit the new guy profiles to Max Reinhart this summer. Being the first pick of 2010 for the organization, he has the greatest chance of being an NHLer going forward. More interestingly, however, he’s likely to be one of the most contentious third round choices under Sutter’s watch (as illustrated by Robert’s…

Kotalik to be bought out?

News from the twitterverse via TSN’s Bob McKenzie: Waivers, likely for buyout purposes: Cheechoo, Ott; Nokelainen, Vandermeer, Phx; Koistinen, Fla; Kotalik, Cgy.

A Modest Failure of Imagination

This weekend’s activities in Los Angeles passed by with the Flames doing very little. I’m not actually surprised that they didn’t move a body or two during the draft, largely because teams that have limited assets aren’t often…

King Henrik II?

In a rather uneventful weekend for the Calgary Flames, they managed to pull off one minor deal, sending the 163rd pick overall (6th round) to the San Jose Sharks for 6-5, 215lb. goaltender Henrik Karlsson.

A Nice, Quiet Weekend

So, after two days of drafting in Los Angeles, the weekend comes to an end without a "big move" from GM Darryl Sutter and the Calgary Flames.  They made one deal and drafted six players, but the feedback I’m getting seems to point to a little disappointment.

Flames 2010 Draft Review

For those disappointed with the Flames lack of movement during the first round, the second day of the draft would provide no succor. The Flames were similarly quiet on day two, making just one minor move in dealing their 6th round choice for 27 year old goaltender Henrik Karlsson.
