Training Camp Update – September 30th

Thoughts, Unsorted

There’s lots of stuff going on in Flamesland today, so while I don’t do these types posts often I figure it’s a good time to throw down some thoughts in no particular order. – If you’re getting excited about the Flames 5-0 pre-season record well…don’t. I hate to be a wet blanket…

Preseason Gameday Update – September 29th

A fairly veteran squad has landed in Saskatoon for the Calgary Flames who will take on the New York Islanders in exhibition action tonight (7 pm, Rogers Sportsnet Flames and The FAN 960).  22 players made the trip, and with no morning skate today, we won’t know till pregame warmup what we’re looking at in terms…

Flames Comparables – Part 2

(Today we present the second part of Robert Vollman’s Flames Comparables series. This post will focus on some "supporting" offensive players) Matt Stajan, 27 Acquired in the Phaneuf deal, the Flames have invested $3.5 million a year in Matt Stajan, so you know they’ll give him every opportunity to succeed.  Stajan has shown steady improvement…

Training Camp Update – September 27th

For the first time in four days, Niklas Hagman was back on the practice ice at the Saddledome as the Calgary Flames continued 2010 training camp.  While he returned, both Rene Bourque and Raitis Ivanans were not on the ice for what the team called maintenance reasons.

The TJ Brodie Situation

On Saturday night, TJ Brodie added another data point to his rapid ascension up the Flames prospect depth chart, scoring two power play goals against a decidedly veteran Tampa Bay pre-season squad. Brodie was also amongst the team leaders in ice time that night at 25:04, including more than 16 minutes at ES.

Prospect Tournament Pics

Ryan Pinder, the director of broadcasting and media relations for the Penticton Vees, was on the scene when the baby Flames were in Penticton for the recent prospect tournament. He was good enough to snaps some pics and send them our way for publishing.

Preseason Game No. 3: No pressure

Well Calgary’s rolling out about a 65-percent decent roster up front and a bunch of kids (plus Mark Giordano and Cory Sarich) on the blue line, in front of Kiprusoff. That’s the bad news.
