head-to-head ice.

A very good night against a pretty good team. Flames didn’t run away with the count, but considering they lead for a majority of the evening, the fact that they finished ahead is an accomplishment in itself. Iginla finally saw some pucks go in on a night where he was outchanced 3-5 at ES. Oh well…nice to see the Flames not "run into a hot goalie" for once.

Odd fact – the last four scoring chances of the evening all found the back of the net.

  • Robert Cleave

Hossa and Sharp were pretty quiet tonight, considering that they played against Anton Babchuk a good share of the game at EV. If I’ve counted right, Hossa was +2/-3 at EV. That’s not what I would have expected going in.

  • The PP was dominant and a bunch of that was playing guys who can create offense.

So naturally I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. One of these days we’re going to give up a SH goal (it happens) and that’s going to be the end of the 4F experiment and the return of Staois and Reggie (maybe both!) on the PP point.

    • I don’t know if the Flames were better against PHX, but CHI was certainly worse in comparison to the Coyotes. Their puck management was simply horrid. They lost a luck of puck battles and they spent a lot of time passing the puck down the middle in the neutral zone and in their own end to no one in particular.

  • Jay Bouwmeester quietly had himself a pretty good game there going by the H2H ice, most of it against Toews. Of course the latter drags around a couple suspect linemates but still.

I say quietly because I didn’t notice 4 outside of one play where he went right up against a Hawk with the puck at the Flames half-wall, smothered him and simultaneously gained the puck and passed it off. Still, not bad.

  • Robert Cleave

With White gone, he and Reggie are the de facto shut-down pairing, which is as it should be going forward. I expect they’ll combine to be solid most nights.

Should’ve been like that from day 1 but we have on our hands the coaching version of Steve Tambellini.

The day after a convicning win seems like the perfect time to fire the coach, wouldn’t you say?

moss is our holmström on the pp, like that move.

with 3 gone i hope sutter keeps 28-4 as a pairing. 5-33/6 can probably hold their own against the 2nd thoughs

33 looked quite slow. our kurtis foster to carry,

with 3 mostly getting burned defensively and the cap savings of 1.2M I kind of like the trade so far.
