The Flames terrible first period buried them in this one. Outchanced and outshot at ES, they were also awful on the PK, surrendering two PP goals. The second period started out roughly the same until the mighty Islanders scored their 4th goal and went into full-on shell mode. Calgary pressed the advantage at that point and even generated a lot of chances on the PP, but it wasn’t enough.
Calgary first line had their second questionable night in a row, somehow ending up under water in terms of both possession and SC differential. That’s an awful night of work at home against nobodies while chasing all night. More or less the bulk of the attack was carried yb the Moss-Jackman-Kostopolous trio, particularly Moss who scored both goals and was driving things relentlessly all evening.
Bourque et al were medicore again, occassionally getting involved, but mostly being invisible. I don’t know what’s happened to Bourque and Glencross this year, but they have disappeared almost entirely. They are shadows of the players they’ve been in the past. Stajan et al had a decent enough night, although I can’t for the life of me remember a single one of their shifts.
What happened to Glencross and Borque? I think Sutter’s benching really infuriated Glencross and he’s begun phoning in his performances. I believe Borque is (a) resting on the laurels of his new contract and (b), given his injury woes, has gotten away from his physical game and has attempted to transform himself into a sniper. If both were on top of their game, thus giving us a functional second line, we probably wouldn’t find ourselves in the mess we are in.

not sure how i feel about gio/iggy playing full 2 minute powerplays
It’s never a good thing when you’re fourth line is constantly being your most offensive line. Our 2nd and 3rd lines have done nothing for the past month, and the top line struggled tonight. And we lost 5-2 to the lowly Islanders. And we’re in Vancouver Wednesday. Oh boy.
GOOD GOD WE SUCK!
How does the coaching staff decide after a 4 game win streak and with the way the islanders have been playing, decide to fire in the number 2 goalie. Nothing against Karlsson but that has to be one of the dumbest things ever. Look at the penguins after there slump they had and goaltending from marc andre fleury then all of a sudden 13 or 14 game win streak or whatever it was not sure but they didnt decide to put johnson in. Just didn’t make sense to me. Go Flames
Kent,
do you have the scoring chance counts filed anywhere together? Or could you consider creating its own dedicated “folder” on this site with a season total included?
google file the data for people to download
So, tell me-could we maybe TRY Conroy again – he has to be better, HAS to be better than Stajan. Older, slower, but with at least some fight in his game?
I think I can sum up Bourque and GlenX’s biggest problem in two words, and his initials are DL.
Though this is not to let them off the hook. GlenX was outright useless last night, and Bourque seems too much the spectator… he hasn’t even taken a stupid stick penalty lately!
