Another odd one, with Calgary falling behind by a wide margin thanks to a combination of being marginally outplayed, some bad bounces and mediocre goaltending. They reeled things in a bit starting in the second and managed to tie things thanks to, well…some bounces and marginal goaltending. They never deserved to be behind by 4 at any point, but were also technically lucky to come back to tie things, so it sort of all evened out by the end of the night.
Calgary first line and the usually steady Mark Giordano had a pretty rough first half of the game, but the big guns were full value as things went along, especially in the third. The Jokinen, Bourque and Kotalik trio were underwater in terms of possession and chances, but were absolutely buried by Sutter in terms of zone starts and match-ups so their performance isn’t terrible considering.
Kipper hasn’t been able to buy a bounce recently, with a couple of odd deflections counting against him again. That said, he kinda lost his net on both the Cammalleri and Kostitsyn goals so he’s not completely without blame.
Also…the Subban goal is listed as “PPG”, but that’s because Karlsson disappeared from the gamesheets for some reason…so it was actually ES.
PPS – The Bouwmeester goal is now Iginla’s, so consider that another Flames scoring chance. 16-14 at ES is the *real* count (so basically the same).
Hey Kent, with all the trade talk swirling about, is there any thought to compiling a list of teams and GMs that Feaster dealt with a lot?
I’d probably have to talk to a Lightning writer for that. Although, it may be a moot point given the fact he was in a different division when he was GM and that was several years ago.
“That said, he kinda lost his net on both the Cammalleri and Kostitsyn goals so he’s not completely without blame.
So, Steinberg was just going on with this same comment on the fan, and I read it yesterday, and just left it alone.
BUT, now, when people are going off about “losing his net.” I’d like to hear someone articulate that. Problem is, one person starts with it, then someone else picks it up, then ten people.
The Kostitsyn goal. How did Kiprusoff “Lose his net?”
How does a goalie “lose his net” when a puck goes in on a shot short side deflected under the glove?
Is it because it went in that he lost his net?
Does he need to be even further over to the glove side standing in front of the post?
If Kiprusoff should save a deflected wrist shot from the top of the circle deflected off Pardy’s stick, then shouldn’t Karlsson save the Subban wrist shot that wasn’t deflected in OT? Watch ’em again, they are from the EXACT same spot, with Pardy reaching in on both like an idiot only he didn’t deflect Subban’s.
So, why does the criticism only focus on Kiprusoff?
Better, why are the defenders suddenly trying to make stick plays in body play zones? Even Don Cherry knows “Get your stick OUT of the way.” Pardy deflected THREE shots yesterday two went in, one hit the post. Three strikes your out. Use your head Adam that what it’s there for.
You block a man OR a puck with your BODY, you poke a puck OFF a stick with your stick. You deflect pucks with sticks, that’s why your gambling if you’re doing it as a defender.
If you can’t REACH the puck, then get your stick out of the way.
Look guys in the D zone made mistakes. You score 4 goals you HAVE to win. Lots of guys in the back-end weren’t good enough, but it sure had nothing to do with Kipper “losing a net”
