SVEN to the Rescue?

Tim Jackman went down after one shift against the Habs last night, making the Flames injured list the longest it’s been in recent memory. That’s the bad news. The good news is the team may use their emergency recall to give Sven Baertschi an early and unexpected NHL debut.

Friend of the site Pat Steinberg hinted at such a possibility around noon. He followed up with this sort of confirmation:

The Flames have yet to officially confirm, but it sounds like the WHL phenom (94 points in 47 games) will be skating Friday night versus the Jets.

I agree he should be playing a top 6 role, the problem is he is not a center.

Tanguay – Stajan – Iginla is gonna be our first line, Bärtschi is not gonna unseat those guys. However he could play on the second line

GlennX – Jokinen – Bärtschi and they could move Moss down to the third at wing or center to give that line a little veteran presence. Because if Bärtschi is playing in the Bottom 6 I think all but Kosto is a rookie and that’s a scary thought. I think playing with Jokinen and GlennX could be good for a Bärtschi.

Yeah just noticed that Portland is about to play, a little surprising to Call Bärtschi up this long before a game, unless they are worried that he could have got hurt in tonights game.

    One good thing:

Sven is red hot right now. He’s potted 7 goals in his last 3 games! While he’s not going to be doing that on the big team just yet, the fact that he’s in peak form means he has a decent chance of getting on the scoreboard in his first few games, and that first NHL goal has got to be a huge confidence booster.
