Brandon Hickey In the Beanpot Tonight

While it’s an off-day for the Calgary Flames as they trek back east to prepare for the beginning of their seven-game road trip tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden, an opportunity to watch hockey tonight has emerged.

TSN2 is televising the Beanpot championship game this evening from the TD Garden in Boston. The Boston University Terriers play against the Northeastern University Huskies for Boston-area collegiate hockey bragging rights.

As you may be aware, Calgary’s third round pick Brandon Hickey plays for Boston University – as does uber-prospect Jack Eichel. The game starts at 5:30pm MT on TSN2.

Looking forward to a chance of seeing Mr. Hickey play this season.

Even realizing he is playing on a very good team, his point production and the fact that he is on the PP bodes well for the next 3 years of eligibility.

He could end up being a great pick over the long term!

Hickey Hockey! There is a ring to that!

    Hockey Futures:

“Hickey in in his freshman season at Boston University in 2014-15 and is among the leading scorers among Terriers’ defensemen. Like many BU alums his high skill level and physical tools suggest he may be pro ready before using all four years of his NCAA eligibility. Long-term his potential suggests he will be an effective two-way defenseman who is strong in his own end and is a threat in the transition game.”

Sounds like another T J Brodie on the way up…
Looking forward to watching this game rather than the Canuckles…

I saw about 15 minutes of the 2nd period and the whole BU team did well.

I liked what I saw of Hickey … he appears much bigger than I had imagined and it is apparent that he is a very good skater. He was eager to join the rush and was not shy in letting fly from the point.

I think we have an excellent prospect on the grow in BU … heck if he becomes a 2/3’s of a Brodie that would be a big plus for the Flames! A fine draft selection by the Flames.

I enjoyed the flow of the game and the level of play …. I came away with a much better appreciation of why the NHL is mining the NCAA ever more for prospects.

PS: and Eichel? Simply a wow-prospect. VERY impressive!!
