Markus Granlund Goes Back To Stockton

Some minor roster news in advance of tonight’s game with Washington!

The Flames announced via press release that Markus Granlund has been returned to the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League.

Granlund was likely going to be a healthy scratch tonight with the return of Joe Colborne from the injured reserve, so most likely this is a move to get him to Texas in time for Stockton’s game tomorrow in Cedar Park against the Texas Stars. With the move (and presuming Colborne is activated tonight), the Flames will remain at 22 active players: 3 goalies, 6 defensemen and 13 forwards.

Granlund played one game with Stockton and had three points and played one game with the Flames and was held pointless, but played a bottom-six role. For what it’s worth, the Heat handily lost the single game they played without Granlund – their top center – so it’ll be useful for both Granlund and the farm team for him to get back into game action as soon as possible.

My fear is that Granlund will have the same fate as Sven…..Both players are top 6 players only but unfortunately they are not able to play top 6 with the Flames…not quite good enough given the talent already in place….

The ggest problem in my mind with Sven was he would start to show something and the next few games he is hurt and out for 2 to 3 month or 2 weeks here and 3 weeks next time. To me he was 1 of those injury prone guys who can never stay in the line up long enough to be an impact player. the Grung does not sit in the injury status all the time.
