The Flames announced this morning via Twitter that they have relieve Bob Hartley of his coaching duties. This comes hot on the heels of the Anaheim Ducks firing Bruce Boudreau, which might indicate that Treliving is interested in bringing in the erstwhile Caps/Ducks bench boss.

No way to know for sure right now though. More as this develops.

I wonder if the reason of McClellan and Boudreau’s strong winnng percentage have anything to do with playing a large share of games versus the Flames , Oilers and Coyotes the last 4 or 5 seasons. Hurts to say that but I still think we should and we hire Boudreau.

Ryan Pike was right on the money with his recent article on Hartley. What a compliment to have your analysis confirmed by the GM of our team.

Great job FN, I feel the writers here are finding their form in earnest. It’s been a pleasure reading high-end Flames news on the daily from this site.

This is a great step for the Flames in addressing their problems. Hartley was a great guy that instilled a nice work ethic, but we’ve gone as far as we can with Hartley. Hartley had some serious issues that were hurting the team and youth development. He was unable to adapt his systems, improve possession, PP, PK and mismanaged players, especially rookies. I think his biggest failures is how he handled players. His inexplicable nature to continuously play vets over better rookies still boggles my mind. The way Hartley handled rookies like Nakladal, Wotherspoon and Ortio was a giant red flag and I think it was the leading reason to his firing. Even without the mismanagement, there was still a strong case to replace Hartley.

If Hartley wasn’t in control at the start of the year, I think this season would look substantially different for the Flames. There was an emergence of youth that Hartley attempted to stifle, but thanks to injuries they were thankfully able to showcase their talent. Which didn’t surprise anyone in the slightest.

In my opinion, there are 3 glaring issues with the Flames Treliving needs to address before the Flames can be successful. Those being, goaltending, Top line RW and a new coach. Treliving has started the summer on the right foot by firing Hartley. I fully expect Treliving will successfully address the other two issues before the start of next season. I think we will see an incredible turnaround for the Flames next season and become a contender in the next few years.
