  • Mr. McDavid

    Fist place in the west
    Fist place in nhl scoring
Fist place wins for a goalie
    Block the haters
    Block the nay sayers
    Block anyone who will
    Doubt us
    Que the evil Empire music
    We’re back winning with that
    Air of domanace. They all
    Hate us
    Let’s give them something
    To hate

      • Boom or Bust

Wow. Came out of hiding huh? You seem to forget that this isn’t a soccer site? Your team is doing awful and you’re comments are lame and you’re really grasping at anything now.. Sad sad little person

      • Jakethesnail

Ya this jerk totally disappeared when Calgary slid into the sewer and now Calgary get a couple of wins and all is good in cowtown.
        1 regulation win! Big deal!

      • Ogie Oglethorp

        1.) agree
        2.) meh
3.) Make up all the fancy stats you want to explain it (maybe use the same ones that said Shea Weber sucks and the Habs got burned on that trade). But McDavid is THAT good. Get over it Flamers. Maybe you could make up some new stats? RelMcDavid. PDMcDavid. SH%SV%McDAVID%. I’m sure you don’t watch Oiler games because you were too busy watching Gaudreau get less points that Zach Kassian this year, but McClellan doesn’t even line match. Unlike Smurfy Hockey he doesn’t get the soft minutes against 4th liners. He just goes, power on power. And he is 19.

You guys went from saying McDavid was overhyped, to saying he was a flop and now saying we got lucky and should be ashamed we got him. LOL. Too bad for you.

He should scare you, because the next 10 years could look like the 80s when the the Flames were a decent team but NOBODY CARED because.. Gretzky.

        • Könniek

Dude, it is just 6 games, it is still really early. In regards to PDO, do remember that the Flames where laughing about having a high shooting percentage and PDO, think it would never come crashing down. It all eventually does one way or another

      • Jakethesnail

You still think this is the same team it has been over the last years? It’s not. The makeup of this team is vastly different. Chiarelli has not stood around and done nothing. This whole team is different. Not many people whining about the Larsson deal anymore. Workhorse!!

        • ChinookArchYYC

Are you responding to me? Nothing you’ve said has anything to do with my comments.

The team may well be different, but math doesn’t lie. The Oilers PDO is unsustainable over a large sample size. Team wide shooting percentage normally hovers around 8%. The Oilers are currently 40% higher than well established NHL norm.

For those of you that believe McDavid can single handedly improve the Team SH%, think again. Neither Ovechkin or Crosby’s shooting percentage were able to move the mark. And for reference both have been hovering around 8 -9% rate for years (outside a couple of outlier years, where their personal PDO’s were very high.

    • Jakethesnail

They may not be but if you think this team resembles anything close to what they have been think again . This team can beat you into the boards or kill you with speed and skill. The defense has been improved exponentially with the addition of Larsson who has and does play like a top pairing defender. Russell? Well thanks to Treleving for putting his team right up against the cap and allowing Chiarelli to sign him. What a nice surprise!

The Nation Network is such a calming influence in my life. I’m Canadian and would love to see Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver at the top of the NHL. And see a loser US franchise re-locate to Quebec. Before the season began I picked Calgary and Winnipeg to make the playoffs in the West (didn’t have the nerve to pick Edmonton yet again!) and Montreal and Ottawa to make it in the East. Here we are very early in the season, Edmonton and Montreal are each in first place – hurray! Canucks are 5th and Canucks Army advises me not to get excited because they are going to lose. Flames and Jets are out of a playoff position but the Army tells me Not To Worry, all will be well. Leafs have climbed to 10th place and the Army says “don’t be concerned, the wins will come” (but I do get confused when I read, “get Anderson out of the net right now”). I don’t know what to think about the Senators being in 6th place because there is no Senators site (is that political decision?) and instead there is a goofy Detroit site which no one reads.

  • Jakethesnail

All I heard from Calgary last year was how bad Russell was but he was 2nd in the league in clean zone exits last year. That’s what Russell is . He is someone that can move the puck out of his own end. Nice pick up Chiarelli. Rather have him than that tire fire Hamilton.
The last thing Edmonton needs is a big guy who gets manhandled by guys in front of the net.

  • Spoils

some players make the people around them better. watching Taylor Hall score with the NJD I have to admit to plenty of wistfulness. But McDavid – not only is McDavid a cut above, the halo of his awesome impacts the whole organization.

In obvious ways (Lucic signs), in subtle ways (dressing room demeanor), but I am very tempted to argue he will actually lift players.

Humans are social animals and young people are impressionable. They hang out with McDavid, they happen to take the puck away from him at practice… they start to believe in themselves. the gretzky effect.

I’d be happy not to watch a tire fire…. good times!

  • Spoils

as if it’s not enough that we are 6-1. but read the highlights of the other nation teams and then scan to edmonton.

keep calm. smile, don’t gloat, wait 20 games, point out the flaws, patience… say three hail davids.

  • positivebrontefan

The biggest difference I have seen in the Oilers is the lack of panic that existed in almost every game in the last 5-7 years.

We have a three goal lead and its the third period and the other team is pressing…PANIC.

The other team scores an early period goal…PANIC

The other team has a little bit of prolonged pressure in our zone…PANIC

This years team doesn’t seem to get rattled at all. There is a sense of urgency when it’s time to bear down and get it out of the zone, or score another goal, but they never look frantic like in previous years. There is quiet confidence and slowly the boys are starting to have some fun. It was awesome to see Lucic finally crack a smile after the huge cheer when his goal was announced the other night. He cracked a big grin, he tried to suppress it, but there it was. I think they are starting to realize that as long as they stay the course and don’t have another game like against Buffalo, they might be a legitimate contender for a playoff spot.

    Have fun boys!

The dialogue on this stuff gets a bit grade-school, but ill throw in a bit for the Flames. Highest the Flames have ever drafted is a #4 pick. The Flames have had to be more creative than other teams, I would argue. But yeah, its a sports team, and this is a blog, so feel free to disagree all day long.
