FGD 26: Invaders from the center of the universe (6:30pm MT, SN West)

Embed from Getty Images After a zany, long road trip out east, the Calgary Flames are back! And they’ve brought some of the Eastern Conference with them, as their first game at the Scotiabank Saddledome in a couple of weeks involves a visit from everyone’s favourite hockey club, the Toronto Maple Leafs. That means we…

WWYD Wednesday: What More Can Micheal Ferland Do?

Embed from Getty Images It’s hard not to love Micheal Ferland. Well, besides Canucks fans who seemingly believe he is the worst human ever to fans/players of the opposition night in and night out assuming he may murder someone. But he’s nearly universally beloved by Flames fans.  He’s the type of modern NHL player that…

Hey Toronto, it’s time to shut up about Dougie Hamilton

Embed from Getty Images The Toronto Maple Leafs are in town tonight. I’m sure you’re as thrilled with the completely nonsensical 6:30 p.m. start time as you are with these moronic Dougie Hamilton trade rumours that simply won’t die. Let’s talk about the latter.

Flames Weekly Prospect Update: Onwards to December

Embed from Getty Images We’re now two months into the general hockey season, and clearer patterns have begun to emerge. The Flames haven’t totally shaken off the early October struggles and are still, at their core, an inconsistent disaster that has been propped up by good goaltending (for once). We’ve all been waiting for the team…

3 observations from the Flames road trip

The Calgary Flames just completed their longest road trip of the season, playing six games in nine nights in the Eastern Conference. With a record of 3-2-1, the Flames earned seven of a possible 12 points and return home one game closer to the .500 mark than when they left.  Three things jumped out at…

Islanders 2, Flames 1 (OT) Post-Game Embers: Sigh

Embed from Getty Images The Islanders are an unmitigated disaster right now. Their star players can’t score, and not helping that fact is that they keep scratching key contributor Ryan Strome. They couldn’t keep Kyle Okposo because they gave a shipload of money to Casey Cizikas, Cal Clutterbuck, and other fourth liners. They are second worst…

Post-Game: Flames take a point from Brooklyn

(Brad Penner / USA Today Sports) The Calgary Flames ended their mega-trip in Brooklyn against the New York Islanders. The Islanders are probably a bit more skilled and definitely more rested than the Flames, who at times looked like a bunch of guys looking forward to a nap on the plane ride home. That said,…

FGD 25: No sleep ’til Brooklyn (5pm MT, SN West)

(Brad Penner / USA Today Sports) We love HOME games; have Liquor Depot deliver in under an hour. Click, pick, sit back and watch the game. After nine days on the road – and five games – the Calgary Flames can finally put their longest road trip of the regular season firmly in their rear-view…

FN Mailbag – November 28, 2016

As Calgary slowly inches back towards the .500 mark, the team and its players are being frequently mentioned in trade rumours around the league. Which is not unnatural – when a club underperforms expectations this severely to start a season, a couple of things become more likely: 1.) A coach gets fired. 2.) A significant…

Flyers 5, Flames 3 post-game embers: No brotherly love

Embed from Getty Images This road trip has been a roller coaster of emotions. The surreal highs of seeing intervals of this Calgary Flames team looking like a cohesive entity complete with goals and capable netminding; those crippling lows that a lot of us are growing accustom to. There have been bizarro-world situations where good and…
