Nation Network 2017 Prospect Profile: #9 – Cale Makar

There likely isn’t a more dynamic offensive defenceman in this year’s draft than Cale Makar of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Brooks Bandits. In the 53 years of the AJHL’s history, only 83 players have ever heard their name called at the NHL draft. Only three of them walked the stage in the first round,…

Nation Network 2017 Prospect Profile: #10 – Miro Heiskanen

Yes, that is no typo. We ranked Heiskanen 10th overall — although not every individual did not rank Heiskanen specifically at 10th overall. While Heiskanen has risen up the rankings, with the infamous U18 bump, we value him slightly less, relatively speaking. We do view Heiskanen, though, as one of the best defenders available this draft.

NHL Draft Scout Series: Sweden

Chugging along steadily with the NHL Draft Scout Series, we cross the pond to Sweden, factory of great defenceman and a seemingly ageless people (yes, I’m looking at you Henrik Lundqvist). To talk about the 2017 crop of Swedish prospects for the NHL Draft, we are joined by FutureConsiderations scout Chapin Landvogt after the jump.

WWYD Wednesday: Choose a prospect to trade

We all know the Flames’ major needs heading into the summer: starting goalie, top six winger, top four defender. We also know there is going to be a very active trade market between now and the first round of the entry draft. What we don’t know is what the Flames can offer in return for…

Flames 2017 First Round Targets: Nick Suzuki

In each draft class, there’s usually a player that fits an organization’s needs like a glove. In 2013, the Flames landed Sean Monahan. In 2014, they nabbed Sam Bennett. In 2016, they added Matthew Tkachuk. Another Ontario Hockey League standout seems like he would be the best case scenario at 16th overall for the Calgary…

Flames’ Biggest Need In Net As Busy NHL Offseason Begins

Now that the 2017 Stanley Cup Final is over with Pittsburgh being the first repeat champion of the salary-cap era, the Penguins and Nashville Predators can join the NHL’s other 29 teams in looking ahead to the 2017-18 season. Yes, 29 other teams because of course the expansion Vegas Golden Knights will join the Flames’…

Nation Network 2017 Prospect Profile: #11 – Martin Necas

One of the best prospects to come out of the Czech Extraliga in the last decade or so, Martin Necas has few (if any) weaknesses in his game. Necas is a future top six centre who excels at both goal scoring and playmaking, and is a particularly potent weapon on the power play. He has…
