When Troy Brouwer was bought out, one of the first questions from fans was some version of “Hey, what happens to his A?” Brouwer was an alternate captain for both of his seasons in Calgary, after all.
Well, wonder no longer, as the Flames have announced that Mikael Backlund and Matthew Tkachuk will alternate serving as alternate captains at home and on the road.

Based on the photo, it appears that Backlund will rock the A at home and Tkachuk will do so on the road. They join captain Mark Giordano and alternate captain Sean Monahan in the team’s formal leadership group.
The Flames open their regular season on Wednesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
