Dube absent from practice, Smith to start on Wednesday

The Calgary Flames hit the practice ice on Tuesday morning as they prepare to face the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night. There was good news and bad news from the session.

While Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund were back on the ice after missing Monday’s skate, Dillon Dube was absent and is said to be questionable for tomorrow.

Projected lines from today’s skate (via Steinberg):

Gaudreau – Monahan – Lindholm
Tkachuk – Backlund – Frolik
Bennett – Jankowski – Neal
Hathaway – Ryan – Czarnik

Giordano – Brodie
Hanifin – Andersson
Valimaki – Stone

One would presume that if Dube does play, that would bump Mark Jankowski to the sidelines based on Monday’s groupings. Dalton Prout and Anthony Peluso look to be the other scratches.

Lets hope that they go with what the medical people say rather than what the player says. I am sure that Dube thinks he is good to go with a broken leg in a plaster cast if it means playing the game but organizationally the long term benefit is in having him healthy.

Finally we get to see the Benny-Janko-Neal line (unless we’ve seen it and I missed it?). These are just practise lines, but seems to be somewhat reliable.

Benny and Nealers looking like they got some early chemistry–im hoping Janks can fit right in!

I think you need somebody a little more dynamic than Janko to play with Bennett. Just as soon as Dube is ready to go he should be playing with Bennett and Tkachuk.

Hope Janko can get his game together and get back to being a regular.

    After a 17goal rookie season I didn’t expect this..

But it is still early so I’m not too worried yet.

    • Chucky

I have not seen what is working against him. He has good shifts, draws penalties, gets scoring opportunities has a few hits and wins his share of faceoffs. But that gets him a place on the bench for 58 minutes.

They were torched by Marchand line last couple years. Literally can count on one hand the number of games that 3M has been dominated by in last 2 years, Boston has to be the majority of them

Pretty early in the season to have so many banged up players. Monahan and Backlund with maintenance days, now Dube questionable. If there is any question at this point, sit the kid!

It’s pretty common. We aren’t actually in too bad of shape injury wise. It’s a tough sport, no doubt about it. Totally agree though, sit Dube for a game, he hasn’t looked too good since Nashville. Should’ve sat vs STL in all honesty. Didn’t really see point in benching Jank 2 games in a row, one would’ve been enough to send message.
