The Calgary Flames will be without a key part of their lineup for Saturday’s game against the Jets. Forward Sean Monahan left Friday’s game against the New York Rangers after the first period and won’t travel with the team to Winnipeg.
Monahan played 8:58 in the first period but didn’t come out for the second period. According to Flames head coach Bill Peters, speaking to the media following the game, his absence was related to a suspected illness.
Just not feeling right. I think it’s similar to [Mike Smith], missed a day there. I hope it doesn’t go through the group.
Peters added that Monahan won’t travel with the team to Winnipeg for Saturday’s game against the Jets because “if there’s any doubt about it spreading, it’s not smart,” which most likely that means that Alan Quine dresses in his place or the team dresses seven defensemen.
Monahan, 24, is the Flames’ first line center and while he’s arguably the least exciting member of their core group he’s been a reliable two-way presence and constant offensive producer for the team. In 70 games this season, he has 31 goals and 76 points.
Let’s see what Quine has got….

Byng and the Wizzzard getting hot heading into the play offs.
Could be worse……

Chucky will bring ‘game’
will Mony? talent yes, grit no!
“reliable two way presence”. Meh, reliable awesome 20ft wrister. That two way game…
While I do agree with you, I do think we should all cut Mony a little slack. He has clearly been working on his 200’ game under BP. 4 surgeries in the off season…if you’ve ever been broke off and needed surgery you know he’s still kinda recovering, at least from the wrist anyway. Probably a bunch of puking this evening.
Would be nice to see what he can do without nagging injuries, but with all the slashing in the game, I doubt any players wrists are in great condition
I would like to see Bennett given a chance with Gaudreau and Lindholm, I always thought he had the potential and not sure who else to mump up.
Guadreau – Lindholm – Bennett
3 M
Mangiapane – Jankowski – Hathaway
Quine – Ryan – Czarnik
Sean does know when to pull the pin!
Or is it a ploy?
I find him most the most flumexing player to watch!
flummoxing **
I would like to see how Janko moves up between Johnny and Linholm.
Quine in for Janko’s spot between Mangi and Sam.
Neal might magically appear for tomorrow’s game, and magically disappear on ice ..
I hope he shows up tomorrow. That would really help.

Although Janko’s game has cooled off, he probably makes more sense to jump up. Bennett is ice cold again.
Doesn;t impact the 3M line. Leaves you a few options with lines:
JH-Janko-Lindy
3M
Quine-Bennett-Czarnik
Mange-Ryan-Hath
or

“the least exciting member of their core group”
i.e. Boring Sean Monahan?
Monahan..”least exciting, boring”..
Love that kid and glad it wasn’t anything more serious.
I just hope this “illness” and “not feeling well” isn’t a nagging delayed symptom from the head shot he took the other night. It wouldn’t be the first time the effects were delayed or triggered shortly after seemingly being ok. (Crossed fingers that it’s a flu bug)
Let’s hope is not a long term injury. Center is the Flames one area of little depth.
