Flames will wear retro home jerseys in the playoffs

The rumour is true. The Calgary Flames announced via a video on social media on Friday morning that they’ll be wearing their retro jerseys at home during the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Upon their arrival in Calgary in 1980, the Flames basically re-crested their snazzy red sweaters with white logos that they wore in Atlanta. They maintained this look until 1994, when they got all fancy and introduced the pedestal jerseys. The retros returned intermittently in recent years, being used as the third jerseys from 2009-13 and again in 2016-17. They returned as the full-time third jerseys this season and, surprise, everyone still loves them.

The Flames have a winning record in their retro jerseys this season and won a Stanley Cup 30 years ago in the same classic look. Opting for the retro jerseys at home is a very smart decision for everyone involved.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs begin Wednesday, April 10.

Love to see the retro whites used for away games, at some point in the future. Retro home/away, and some kind of 3rd alternate (probably black – sans Blasty please)

Love this jersey. Have my 89 signed jersey that only comes out on very special occasions. Still need to track down Lanny. Living in Kelowna if anyone can help me out to get his autograph.

For the record, I don’t like the retos. Not that anyone cares. Never have, I realize I’m on an island here, but our home red jerseys are amazing. Maybe growing up a Habs fan makes you partial to red, then, of course, there’s the Stamps as well. But if that’s what it takes to win, so be it.
Flames – Bruins in the finals.

I’ll join you on the island. I don’t have anything against the retros, I prefer something modern. Yeah I get the nostalgia, but it was 30 years ago for goodness sake, time to get over it. Time to get with the times

I like the current home jerseys with the red base and black and yellow trim. Looks much sharper than those retros that look faded after too many cycles through the laundry.

There are already way too many teams in the league with Red and Black as primary colours (Ottawa, NJ, Carolina, Chicago). Black in itself is the primary colour on 14 if the Jerseys in the league. That’s why the Retros of Red and Yellow are where it’s at. The Cherry Red is also unique compared to the other standard Reds in the league. It’s funny that some Flames fans don’t like the Retros becuase they’re always unanimously praised on neutral sports sites as one of the best uniforms in the league. Wish they would bring back a retro white that I could buy someday.

“Everyone still loves them” a bone headed statement. Any way this one is clear cut no grey areas, you either love them or hate them.
I prefer the modern version, a 1966 Mustang was OK in it’s day.

Our everyday Jerseys are a Corporate, Generic, Reebok Edge Template that have become completely outdated. I honestly can’t stand them. I would prefer to go retro full time, but if we don’t, I wish we would design something newer and modern. I think those Reebok Edge Templates are so stale and outdated. They’re the 80s Mustang (not the 5.0) of Jerseys.

The thing I really can’t stand is that the stripe on the pant matches up with the stripe on the jersey. It’s like a roller hockey outfit. I would honesty prefer the 2004 run Jerseys or the last Third (without the Walmart Wordmark replaced by just a Black Flaming C).
