Most of the National Hockey League is firmly into their off-season and so trade chatter is beginning to pick up. TSN’s Frank Seravalli has compiled the first installment of his trade bait board and it features a pair of Calgary Flames: Michael Frolik and Travis Hamonic.
The 2019 NHL Draft is looming and teams are trying to square off their unfinished business from prior drafts. The Calgary Flames have until June 1 to sign 2017 picks Zach Fischer and D’Artagnan Joly. Based on the team’s patterns of behaviour, it doesn’t seem likely that either player will be signed.
One of the Calgary Flames’ international imports is headed back home. Per the team’s site, Swedish defender Marcus Hogstrom is returning to Djurgardens IF for the 2019-20 season.
David Rittich entered the season as the backup to Mike Smith, starting just seven of the team’s first 20 games. However, as the season progressed, it was clear that the newly-coined Big Save Dave would move forward as the Flames starting goaltender by the All-Star Game.
