Now, this wasn’t Iggy’s first-ever NHL goal. When his 1995-96 WHL season wrapped up with the Kamloops Blazers, the Flames brought him up to the big club where he played in two playoff games. He scored his first NHL goal, a playoff tally against Chicago, on April 23rd, 1996.

But back to the point of this article, Iginla scored in his first regular-season game played on Oct. 5, 1996, against the Vancouver Canucks.

As shown in a Mike Commito gif below, Iginla drove the left side of the net deflecting in a Corey Millen pass. Calgary, however, fell 3-1 against the Canucks in that game.

Iginla went on to score 21 goals and 50 points in 82 games in his rookie year placing second in the Calder race behind Bryan Berard.
