Earlier this month, Calgary Flames prospect Jake Boltmann committed to the University of Notre Dame for his college hockey.

But the quirk is this: it turns out that the 19-year-old Boltmann will join the Fighting Irish immediately, and will make his NCAA debut in early January when Notre Dame faces Arizona State.
Boltmann was a third round pick, 80th overall, by the Flames in October’s NHL Draft – he was acquired with one of the two picks the Flames added by trading down twice in the first round. He’s a right shot defenseman listed as 6’1″ and 190 pounds.
In six games this season with the USHL’s Lincoln Stars, Boltmann has zero points.
