Calgary Flames assign Walker Duehr to AHL’s Stockton Heat

After a couple weeks in the big leagues, forward Walker Duehr is headed back to the minors. Per an announcement from the club, the Calgary Flames have assigned Duehr back to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat.

The 24-year-old Duehr was recalled back on Nov. 4 to serve as the Flames’ 13th forward after Brett Ritchie suffered a lower body injury. He played in one game, making his NHL debut on Nov. 14 in Ottawa. He didn’t stand out, nor did he look out of place, playing 8:47 on the fourth line in place of Tyler Pitlick. In doing so, he became the first NHL player born in the state of South Dakota.

Duehr’s re-assignment comes as the Flames begin three days between games, and therefore three days where they really don’t need an additional forward on hand. It might be an indication that Ritchie is nearing a return, or it might just be the club wanting to accrue some additional cap space for three days. His return to the Heat probably bumps Eetu Tuulola back to the AHL press box. In five games with Stockton before his recall, Duehr had one goal and three points.

The Flames are back in action on Saturday night when they host the Winnipeg Jets. Stockton plays on Friday on the road against the Colorado Eagles.
