The 2021 World Juniors are complete and Dustin Wolf is a gold medalist. Many other propects are less happy, but three Flames prospects left Edmonton with medals.
Let’s see how the prospects are faring as we enter 2021.

In case you missed it:

Jake Boltmann- D, Lincoln Stars, USHL / University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA

Boltmann was idle this week as he prepares for his likely NCAA debut this weekend with Notre Dame.

Lucas Feuk- LW, AIK, Allsvenskan/J20 Nationell

J20 up to date8281066319.78
Change from last weekn/a
Sweden’s junior circuit is still off the ice, with restart plans still not announced by Swedish Ice Hockey Association. In the interim, Feuk remains with AIK’s pro outfit. He dressed for two games but played zero shifts.

Ryan Francis- C, Cape Breton Eagles, QMJHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date15615211015832.60
Change from last weekn/a
The QMJHL is paused until Jan. 22 due to COVID concerns.

Johannes Kinnvall- D, HV71, SHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date216121868341.89
Change from last week3101010-4.27
Kinnvall played a ton and had a power play goal this week, but HV71 lost all three games. They need more offense out of him at even strength.

Demetrios Koumontzis- LW, Arizona State University Sun Devils, NCAA

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1235867618.20
Change from last weekn/a
Koumontzis is away from the Sun Devils for the next couple weeks. It could be an injury, could be something else. Whatever it is, hopefully it’s nothing too serious.

Yan Kuznetsov- D, University of Connecticut Huskies, NCAA / Team Russia, WJC

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date201111116.11
Change from last weekn/a
Kuznetsov went back to school after capturing zero medals at the World Juniors. He played zero shifts in the bronze medal game after playing 17:37 in the semis, serving as the seventh man in the loss. He’s headed back to school and could play this week.
He’s only 18, so he’s a good bet to play in next year’s World Juniors.

Mitchell Mattson- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1022444410.92
Change from last week2011111+0.68
Playing on MSU’s fourth line, Mattson got another assist this week. The Spartans split their series with Penn State.

Ilya Nikolayev- C, Buran Voronezh, VHL / Loko Yaroslavl, MHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
VHL up to date276511510513.06
Change from last weekn/a
MHL up to date16681413131018.66
Change from last week4011111-4.44
The VHL was off this week, so Nikolayev was loaned to the junior MHL to get some games in. He played four games, between 16 and 21 minutes per game. He won 56% of his draws and earned an assist, too.

Josh Nodler- C, Michigan State University Spartans, NCAA

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1006656516.39
Change from last week2000000-4.09
Nodler was held off the scoresheet in MSU’s pair of games with Penn State, but he won 59% of his draws while serving on the Spartans’ top line.

Jakob Pelletier- LW, Val-d’Or Foreurs, QMJHL / Team Canada, WJC

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date931013611633.64
Change from last weekn/a
Pelletier had a damn good World Junior tournament overall, playing an energy role and racking up seven points. He was on the ice for both of the USA’s goals in the gold medal game, though. But a silver medal isn’t a bad consolation prize after he missed last year’s selection camp due to a concussion.
He’s off to Flames camp, then will return to the QMJHL when their bubble schedule resumes in late January.

Jeremie Poirier- D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date15511161112824.84
Change from last weekn/a
The QMJHL is paused until Jan. 22 due to COVID concerns.

Martin Pospisil- RW, HC Kosice, Tipsport Liga

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date1995148117n/a
Change from last week2011100n/a
Pospisil remained in Slovakia due to a positive COVID-19 test from last month. He’s resumed play in Slovakia and will head over to North America in mid-January.

Ilya Solovyov- D, Dynamo Minsk, KHL / Dinamo Molodechno, Belarus

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
KHL up to date2905553311.34
Change from last week2022222+4.03
Belarus up to date1101111n/a
Change from last weekn/a
Solovyov seems to have found his mojo again for Dynamo Minsk. He’s been playing second pairing minutes (17+ per night) lately and had two assists in one game. Minsk won both games this week, too.

Filip Sveningsson- LW, MODO Hockey, Allsvenskan

GPGAP5v5 PP15v5 P1NHLe
Up to date242466338.14
Change from last week3000000-1.16
Sveningsson played a lot over three games, with second line minutes in one game and first line minutes in the other two. It’s obvious based on his usage that MODO’s coaches like what he does. But he just cannot seem to translate these habits into points. At this point, it would be a bit of a long-shot for the Flames to sign him – there are a lot of players who need playing time in their system and it’s not clear how Sveningsson would fit in.

Connor Zary- C, Kamloops Blazers, WHL / Team Canada, WJC

Zary got a silver medal from the World Juniors, where he played mostly a complimentary role.
This also happened:
He’s off to Flames camp.

Daniil Chechelev- G, Russkie Vityazi Chekhov, MHL / HC Ryazan, VHL / HC Vityaz Podolsk, KHL

GPTOISV%
MHL up to date148080.932
Change from last weekn/a
VHL up to date146950.915
Change from last weekn/a
Chechelev was off this week and his club elected not to send him to the junior MHL, so it seems like he’s sticking in the minors for now.

Dustin Wolf- G, Everett Silvertips, WHL / Team USA, WJC

Wolf was the backup for his second consecutive World Juniors, playing behind Spencer Knight. He captured a gold medal, though. He’s off to Flames training camp.
