Head to head ice.

A good first period was wiped out by a couple of PP goals and a series of unfortunate events in the second. The Flames were the better team in the first frame, but sometimes when you play a team with elite offensive players you're going to have a night like this where they make their shots and make you look foolish. The Flames outchanced in the third period as well, but that was little more than some shinny hockey played by a couple of teams who already knew the outcome was determined.

Jokinen and Bourque drew the Ovechin straw and got murdered. At some point Sutter's going to have admit that that trio isn't capable at the heavy lifting. Iginla et al. outchanced thanks to the soft match-up but they could finish.

I was actually liking what I saw, but then I missed most of the second period because I had to help the wife put up Halloween decorations. I kept checking the game, first it was 2-1, 2-3, 2-5, 2-6... and the third period just didn't matter. I thought that the top line looked good for the first half of the game but the turning point was that crappy goaltender interference call on the Tanguay goal. Why didn't Calgary challenge that? Then Washington gets the two PP goals and Calgary seemed to fold.

I know that not many people are enamored with Iggy's game right now but I thought that he was going to the tough areas, the front of the net and banging in the corners. He seemed more motivated. Tanguay is playing well, and Iggy is going to break out soon based alone on his 5.3 shot%. His career mark is 13%. Gio is another guy that I think is going to break out soon too. Lots of shots, just not getting the breaks.

A prety gruesome result was the result of some bad luck and a complete surrender from the troops (was it Sarich's own-goal that draied them?). It's one game and not worthy of panic... that sai the Flames don't have a team that can threaten if it gets in the playoffs. Can they make it there? That might be worth yof mild panic.

The logic behind putting Joker against Ovechkin is beyond me. Hagman has been invisible since arrival last year.

Flames speed and aggression were obvious in 1st period, and then the Caps decided to play. 3rd period was a write-off, did Ovie play in the last 5 minutes?
