Tyler Wotherspoon recalled from Stockton (again)

A mere two days after being sent down to Stockton (AHL), Tyler Wotherspoon is on his way back to the NHL to join the Calgary Flames in Arizona. In what looks to be a pre-roster freeze move or penny-pinching to literally save on one day of cap space, the Flames will again carry a full 23-man squad and seven defensemen.

Wotherspoon was able to play with the Heat and helped them defeat the San Diego Gulls 3-1 on Saturday after being sent down. This season with Stockton, Wotherspoon has six points in 20 games and has yet to make his season debut with the Flames despite sitting in the press box for four games.

The Flames take on the Arizona Coyotes tonight at 7:00 PM MST so there is always room for adjustments prior to puck drop.

What a joke, totally shooting the kids confidence down. And hindering his development. Not very smart.

Hey, he's getting NHL money for the next week at least and gets to be in the show.

Better Christmas than Kulak.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure that they would have told him the plan all along, so it's likely not toying with his emotions. He would have known that he was going down to play a game and then coming back up to make some money.

The Flames are in a tough spot. They should be sitting Wideman or Engelland, but Trelliving likely aspires to trade either or both of those expiring contracts (whether it's realistic or otherwise is another discussion). Sitting them weakens their relative trade value. Trading either would immediately provide some much needed cap flexibility and relief.

Wotherspoon will only sub in for Jokipakka or injury relief duty.

I don't like it, but welcome to the less personal and business first NHL.

I hope they keep Engelland around... as the 6/7 guy.

As for Wotherspoon... I can only assume that those who watch and evaluate believe they are gett8ng something from Wideman and jokipaka that they wouldn't get from Tspoon.

In 2 years it will be Rasmuss and Kylington and player x as our button 3.

Who player x is is anyone's guess. Maybe one of those in the system, maybe not.

*shrug* Kulak already got paid NHL salary for what, two months? I don't think he's crying over his Christmas. Especially when he gets to avoid Alberta weather.
