Flames return to Young Stars Classic in September

The fall hockey calendar has been in a pretty set pattern for the last several years for the Calgary Flames. The 2017-18 campaign looks to be no exception, with the Vancouver Canucks officially announcing earlier today that they’ll be hosting the Young Stars Classic tournament for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
This year’s tournament runs Sept. 8-11 from the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton and features the Canucks, Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.
The tournament pits the rookies and prospects of the four Western Canadian clubs head-to-head in a battle for supremacy – as well as an opportunity for tryout players to try to make an impression on team management. Ryan Lomberg began his path to an NHL contract with the Flames with a big Penticton performance, so there are stakes for those involved despite it being a preseason exhibition event.
Here’s how the schedule breaks down for the Flames:
- Sept. 8: vs. Edmonton (5 p.m. MT)
- Sept. 10: vs. Vancouver (3 p.m. MT)
- Sept. 11: vs. Winnipeg (11:30 a.m. MT)
Tickets go on sale July 7 at valleyfirsttix.com.
