Flames place five players on waivers

The preseason and 2018’s training camp is winding down and so the Calgary Flames have begun to whittle down their roster to a manageable number. Per several reports, the Flames have placed five players on the waiver wire – presumably with the intent of sending them to the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat when they clear.
The five Flames on the wire are all forwards: Kerby Rychel, Buddy Robinson, Alan Quine, Tyler Graovac and Morgan Klimchuk. All five spent large portions of last season in the AHL, so these moves probably aren’t terribly surprising.
Rychel and Graovac both played in two preseason games, but haven’t played in any of the three games since the NHL regulars returned from China. Robinson and Quine each suited up for four preseason games. Klimchuk traveled to China and played once, then played in one more exhibition game.
With the Flames traveling later today to San Jose to start off a two-game preseason road trip to close out their exhibition calendar, it’s likely that the club will officially announce some roster moves later today.
