Flames recall Anthony Peluso from Stockton, Ryan Lomberg to AHL

The Calgary Flames have made a predicted roster move. The club has recalled forward Anthony Peluso from the American Hockey League’s Stockton Heat and demoted suspended forward Ryan Lomberg to the AHL.

Peluso has been up and down a few times this season. He’s played 3 games for the Flames and 16 for Stockton this season. With Sunday evening’s game against the Edmonton Oilers expected to have some rough stuff, the Flames brass likely felt it made sense to bring him in as an insurance policy.

For what it’s worth, according to our friends at HockeyFights.com, Peluso has had one (AHL) fight this season and just three (AHL) fights since 2016-17. He’s a big, tough dude, but I’m not sure if a guy that fights so infrequently will accomplish what they hope he will.

With one game left on his suspension Lomberg heads to the AHL. The Flames are allowed to send Lomberg down and he’s able to play down there immediately, but he’s not able to play any NHL games before he serves the final game left on his suspension (in the NHL).

You mean only being tied for 15th in Stockton team scoring isn’t good?!?!?

Glenn Gawdin, Kerby Rychel, Buddy Robinson could all beat the crap out of Lomberg and they all actually have NHL skills as well.

I don’t mind adding muscle, but the flames would be ill advised to make this a goon game… keep it fast and structured, and it is in the bag… get distracted, and lose

“…He’s a big, tough dude, but I’m not sure if a guy that fights so infrequently will accomplish what they hope he will.”
well, if letting Lucic or Kassian punch him instead of star would be accomplishing what they want… doesn’t need to win the fight, just needs to stand in and take one for the team if need be, of, itthey try to hurt Gaudreau or someone, he can do the same to their stars

on Oiler Nation, the Looch is quoted as saying they need to be disciplined, and given calgary’s success on the power play, i am assuming they will be very careful not to be drawn into stupid penalties, but i also believe they will be looking for ways to go after guys with explosive hits… I just hope after their first stupid penalty we get the goal on the PP, which will get into their heads… and you know edmonton is deep into their own heads

Oilers want to play it rough you gotta bring your tough guys. I don’t think the $10K fine from a few days ago will discourage BP from tapping Peluso on the shoulder and telling him to go out and send a message.

Coach’s fine doubles each time. If the BS doesn’t happen till 5 minutes left in the third, then he may think twice about who he sends out. What a crap rule. It just lets goons get away with dirty plays in the last 5 minutes of a game. Just insane, but that’s Bettman for you.
