The Calgary Flames have locked up a key piece of their front office for the foreseeable future. The club announced on Thursday that they’ve inked general manager Brad Treliving to what’s being termed a “multi-year” contract extension.
Treliving turned 50 in August and has been the Flames’ GM since 2014. Under his watch, the Flames have emerged from their rebuild as one of the better teams in the National Hockey League and have made the playoffs in three of the five seasons he’s been at the helm. He hasn’t been a perfect GM – illustrated by the handful of contract buyouts he’s executed – but the team has drafted better and traded better than in past regimes under his leadership.
Originally signed to a three year deal, he was extended for another three seasons following the 2016-17 campaign. While this is entirely speculation, it’s probably fair to assume that this new deal is also for around three seasons (through the 2022-23 campaign).
