The Calgary Flames placed Tobias Rieder on waivers today, presumably with the intent of sending him down to the Stockton Heat.
Rieder is currently on a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames which he signed at the end of his PTO during preseason. Should he go unclaimed and wind up in California, his $700,000 cap hit would be buried, giving the Flames the slightest bit more breathing room in their cap crunch.
He has played nine games this season, scoring one goal.
