The Calgary Hitmen had a busy week, playing four games. They also had a relatively unproductive week, losing three of four. But they’re playoff bound, so the consequences of a losing skid are fairly minor.

The week that was

On Friday, the Hitmen lost 3-2 at home to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Wheaties got out to a 3-0 lead and the Hitmen couldn’t claw all the way back. Mark Kastelic and Riley Stotts scored for the Hitmen. Brayden Peters made 16 saves in the loss.
On Sunday, the Hitmen lost 3-2 at home to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The Hitmen got down 2-0, rallied back to tie, then gave up the game-winner early in the third period. Orca Wiesblatt and Stotts scored for Calgary. Peters made 23 stops in the loss.
The Hitmen went on the road, getting rolled 8-3 by the Prince Albert Raiders on Tuesday evening. The Raiders scored four times before the Hitmen got on the board. Then the Raiders scored another four goals just for good measure. Cael Zimmerman scored twice and Kastelic once for Calgary. Hitmen goalie Jack McNaughton was on the hook for all eight goals (as Peters was slated to play the next day).
Luckily, saving Peters for Wednesday’s game against Saskatoon worked out and the Hitmen won 4-3. Zimmerman, Kastelic, Carson Focht and Dakota Krebs scored for Calgary. Peters made 29 saves for the victory.

The week ahead

The Hitmen have six games left this season! They head to Medicine Hat on Friday night, then head home to host the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday.

The playoff picture

The Hitmen are 35-22-5 and have 75 points. They’re fourth in the Central Division, but probably won’t get out of the wildcard playoff spot they’re in. More importantly, they’re eight points up on Saskatoon for the top wildcard spot. That’ll allow them to cross over into the East Division bracket. They seem destined for a first round match with Prince Albert, but it’s an easier path for them than battling through Edmonton, Medicine Hat or Lethbridge.
