@Calgary Flames forward, @Mikael Backlund, released a message to Flames fans from his home on Wednesday afternoon via his Instagram account, and preached the importance of social distancing and how we all need to watch out for each other during the trying times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
From Backlund’s video:
“Hey, Flames fans. I miss you guys. I miss playing in front of you and I hope you’re all staying safe. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds or longer often and every day. Practice social distancing, and, if possible, work from home. I’m looking forward to playing in front of you guys again, but for now, stay healthy and stay safe.”
Backlund joins an ever-growing list of NHLers such as Connor McDavid, Blake Wheeler, @Jack Eichel, @Nico Hischier, @Rasmus Dahlin, and @Jonathan Bernier that have come out and used their social platforms to encourage fans to practice social distancing as much as possible during this time.
Just yesterday, TSN reported that the NHL players are hoping to resume the season in August (if it is safe and possible to do so) which makes taking steps to flatten the curve on the spread of COVID-19 incredibly important if there is any hope of making that happen
