With Derek Ryan likely not available for a little bit, the Calgary Flames have made a roster move. They’ve summoned centre Byron Froese (and his $725,000 cap hit) from Stockton of the AHL.

Froese, 29, is a right shot forward who served as Stockton’s captain last season. He had 42 points in 46 AHL games last season. He’s built a reputation as an excellent AHL centre, but he hasn’t been able to carve out a full-time NHL gig yet. He’s played 110 NHL games split between Toronto, Tampa Bay and Montreal, but hasn’t had an NHL game since 2017-18.
Froese was originally drafted by Chicago in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft.
