We’re at the point now where just about every Calgary Flames prospect of note has played games, aside from a few injured players. Harvard got going this past week, so 2021 first round pick Matthew Coronato has begun his freshman season.
Let’s check in on all the prospects!
This and that:
- Johannes Kinnvall, Connor Zary and Tyler Persons are on the Flames’ non-roster/injured list after suffering training camp injuries.
Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (168th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 10 | 9 | 4 | 13 | 8 | 13 | 8 | 34.43 |
Change from last week | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | -5.30 |
Beck had a quiet week by his standards, registering just a single goal. He remains among the Ontario league’s top goal-scorers.
Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10
Calgary’s third round pick (80th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 7 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 11.72 |
Change from last week | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | -4.66 |
Boltmann went quiet offensively this season, but he’s still bouncing between Notre Dame’s second and third pairings.
Lucas Ciona – LW, Seattle Thunderbirds, WHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (173rd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 5 | 1 | 4 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 15.48 |
Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 3 | 1 | 1 | +5.57 |
Two positive developments for Ciona this past week: he was a point-per-game player and didn’t take any penalties.
Matthew Coronato – RW, Harvard University Crimson, NCAA/HE
Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft; #1-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 2 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 4 | 5 | 4 | 68.88 |
Change from last week | 2 | 3 | 3 | 6 | 4 | 5 | 4 | +68.88 |
Coronato made his NCAA debut with a four point game. Then he had a two point game in his second NCAA game. Now, his numbers are objectively good. But remember: Harvard is a stacked college team with visions of a national championship this season, and they thumped non-powerhouse teams Bentley and Dartmouth.
But opening your collegiate career with two big games is undoubtedly a positive. Just don’t go putting Coronato’s name on the Hobey Baker until he plays some better teams.
