Folks, we talk a lot about Calgary Flames prospect Rory Kerins on this website. And for good reason: he’s among the best players in Canadian junior hockey. But with all the hubbub about Dustin Wolf and Jakob Pelletier these days, maybe we’re not saying enough to put Kerins’ excellence into context.
Kerins is second in scoring in the OHL after basically having his entire Draft+1 season wiped out due to the pandemic. That’s pretty amazing.
Let’s check in on the Flames’ other youngsters.
This and that:
- G Tyler Parsons remains on the Flames’ season-opening injury reserve.
- D Johannes Kinnvall was activated from the season-opening injury reserve and assigned to Stockton.
- We’re not including Juuso Välimäki’s AHL run in here because he’s played enough NHL games that we no longer consider him a prospect. He has seven points in 10 AHL games and missed this week’s games with an injury.

Solovyov played both games this week and was solid, if unspectacular. The Heat were missing a bunch of more experienced blueliners and he was very reliable in their absence.

Tuulola only had a secondary assist this week, but he’s been one of Stockton’s more noticeable and consistent players lately. With bigger names out with injuries and/or COVID, that’s been huge for the Heat’s continued success.
Cameron Whynot – D, Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL
Calgary’s third round pick (89th overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft

Chechelev returned to the ECHL and played a game before their All-Star Break.
Arsenii Sergeev – G, Tri-City Storm, USHL

GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 24 | 1384 | .934 |
Change from last week | 2 | 106 | +.002 |
Sergeev was named the USHL’s top goaltender of the week, getting that honour for the third time this season. He was also tossed from a game for getting into an altercation with an opposition forward – hitting anybody in the head is a no-no in the USHL. He remains the top goaltender in the USHL by basically every statistical measure.
Adam Werner – G, Stockton Heat, AHL
Colorado’s fifth round pick (131st overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 10 | 603 | .890 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | +.010 |
Werner’s gotten about half the starts for Stockton recently and he’s been performing rather well. He’s still Stockton’s second-best goalie, but he’s been very solid for them lately.
Dustin Wolf – G, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s seventh round pick (214th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #4-ranked prospect
GP | TOI | SV% | |
Up to date | 20 | 1216 | .931 |
Change from last week | 1 | 60 | -.005 |
Wolf allowed five goals in a Stockton loss. Despite this, he remains one of the top goaltenders in the AHL. He’s first in wins, first in save percentage and second in goals against average. He has yet to register a shutout this season, too, so his numbers are the product of sheer youthful consistency.
