The Calgary Flames prospects had pretty interesting weeks over the past seven days. Rory Kerins is nearing the 100 point mark. Stockton clinched a playoff spot with a 10-3 win. And Matt Coronato continued a really strong stretch of play in college for Harvard.
Let’s dive in and check in on the youngsters!
This and that
- He’s not technically a prospect anymore, but D Juuso Valimaki has 14points in 26 AHL games for Stockton.
- The Michael McNiven era in Stockton is over, as he has been traded to Ottawa. He did not dress for a single game.
- The playing seasons are over for F Mitchell Mattson (Michigan State), F Josh Nodler (also Michigan State) and F Demetrios Koumontzis (Arizona State).
Jack Beck – RW, Ottawa 67’s, OHL

Despite missing many, many months of hockey, Beck is now third in scoring on the 67’s roster. That’s pretty good! He had two assists this week, which is a quiet week by his standards.
Jake Boltmann – D, University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish, NCAA/Big10

Coronato’s been really good for Harvard since the Olympics, and he was extremely good this week. Harvard faced two “win or go home” games against conference foes that were arguably more highly-touted than they were: the won both of them, with Coronato putting up six points over the weekend and factoring into the game-winning goals in each game. He’s been great for awhile, and he was clutch for the Crimson this week. He was named the conference playoff MVP for ECAC. Next up for Harvard: the NCAA national tournament, and top-ranked Minnesota State.

Gawdin had a power play secondary assist this week. He also got bumped off the top line with Adam Ruzicka’s return.
Cole Huckins – LW, Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QMJHL

Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 2 | 4 | 2 | -0.52 |
Kerins had a pretty typical Kerins week, racking up four points. He’s one of the top offensive players in the Ontario circuit and on the verge of hitting 100 points. He’s been awesome this season.
Johannes Kinnvall – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Kinnvall played in one of Stockton’s four games this week. Expressen, out of Sweden, published a report this week that Kinnvall will be headed back to Sweden next season (joining Brynas IF), but we’ve been unable to get any confirmation on that. But considering he’s a seventh defender in the AHL, going back to Sweden would make some sense from the player’s perspective.
Justin Kirkland – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Nashville’s third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft; free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Kirkland had a quiet week by his recent standards, but he still chipped in with a couple points. He’s been very useful for the Heat this season, especially over the past 6-8 weeks.
Yan Kuznetsov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL / Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
Calgary’s second round pick (50th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #15-ranked prospect

Kuznetsov didn’t play this week due to an unspecified injury.
Connor Mackey – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing; #7-ranked prospect

Change from last week | 3 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | +0.01 |
Mackey missed a game due to being with Calgary (and then in transit back from Calgary). He’s maintained a really nice scoring pace this season.
Ilya Nikolaev – C, Tri-City Storm, USHL
Calgary’s third round pick (88th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 46 | 18 | 39 | 57 | 30 | 36 | 19 | 28.45 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 3 | +0.15 |
Nikolaev’s been a really consistent offensive contributor for Tri-City, though he’s not quite their top offensive weapon. He’s their Jiri Hudler, not their Johnny Gaudreau, if that makes sense, and his production pattern – lots of even strength secondary assists and power play points – follows that.
Jakob Pelletier – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s first round pick (26th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft; #3-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 52 | 25 | 28 | 53 | 30 | 39 | 23 | 40.62 |
Change from last week | 4 | 3 | 2 | 5 | 1 | 3 | 1 | +0.77 |
Pelletier has scored nine goals over the past two weeks, and they’ve been part of some really strong performances for Stockton. He’s cemented himself as one of the top 20-or-so scorers in the AHL as a rookie.
Emilio Pettersen – LW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (167th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #11-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 46 | 8 | 11 | 19 | 17 | 14 | 10 | 16.46 |
Change from last week | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | -0.62 |
He’s in more of a defensive role than some of the other forward prospects in Stockton, but Pettersen got just a single assist in a four game week where most of his counterparts generated more.
Matthew Phillips – RW, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s sixth round pick (166th overall) in the 2016 NHL Draft; #5-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 50 | 25 | 32 | 57 | 33 | 44 | 28 | 45.43 |
Change from last week | 4 | 4 | 3 | 7 | 4 | 6 | 4 | +2.11 |
Phillips averaged a goal per game (and almost an assist per game) over a pretty busy week. He’s one of the most productive offensive players in the entire AHL.
Luke Philp – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 51 | 18 | 17 | 35 | 20 | 26 | 17 | 27.35 |
Change from last week | 4 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 3 | 3 | 2 | +1.06 |
Usually known for his goal-scoring, Philp was a set-up man this week for four Stockton goals.
Jérémie Poirier – D, Saint John Sea Dogs, QMJHL
Calgary’s third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #9-ranked prospect
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe
Up to date | 50 | 12 | 35 | 47 | 33 | 28 | 19 | 21.89 |
Change from last week | 3 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 1 | +0.09 |
Poirier has been a really consistent offensive blueliner this year, and this week was no exception. He’s a constant spark on Saint John’s blueline.
Colton Poolman – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
Free agent signing
GP | G | A | P | 5v5 P | P1 | 5v5 P1 | NHLe

Change from last week | 4 | 0 | 3 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 2 | +1.99 |
Poolman isn’t really an offensive mover and shaker, but he had three assists as Stockton scored a lot this past week.
Martin Pospisil – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s fourth round pick (105th overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft; #16-ranked prospect

Pospisil returned from injury over the weekend and chipped in with a couple of points.
Adam Ruzicka – C, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s fourth round pick (109th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft; #6-ranked prospect

Ruzicka returned to the AHL after a few months in the NHL. He had a game with zero points and a game with two points.
Ilya Solovyov – D, Stockton Heat, AHL
Calgary’s seventh round pick (205th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft; #20-ranked prospect
