*12/27/09* FLAMES v. CANUCKS POSTGAME: BETTER WASH THE SHEETS

Vancouver Canucks: 5 — Henrik Sedin, Kyle Wellwood [GWG], Mason Raymond (3)
Calgary Flames: 1 — Jarome Iginla
Well… that must’ve been fun to watch. Luckily for me, I went out for dinner with my girlfriend and her daughter and did not have to witness that embarrassment live. "Honey, you better wash the sheets, ’cause these here Flames done sh*t the bed tonight".
Things began promising. With yet another new-look 1st line (Conroy-Jokinen-Iginla), Jarome Iginla tipped a shot by Jay Bouwmeester to beat Roberto Luongo just over seven minutes in. It was only Iginla’s 3rd goal of December and Bouwmeester’s 2nd assist in his last 12 games. After that, it was ALL downhill. Less than two minutes later, the Flames were down 2-1, and the Canucks never looked back. Mikka Kiprusoff got the mercy pulling after allowing 4 goals in the 1st period. Olli Jokinen played just 12:09 and spent a significant amount of time stapled to Brent Sutter’s bench, yet was still on the ice for 8 scoring chances against. While Coach Sutter continues to try and find a LW to play with Jokinen & Iginla, its become painfully obvious that the rotating LW is not the problem… the big Finnish center is. And not just because he looks like he arrived here on Earth via UFO. Nope, Jokinen has been a disastrous flop in Calgary. I wanted to see the big guy here for three years prior to them actually acquiring him. My mistake. Perhaps splitting him and Iggy up is no longer a question. Let’s hope.
I wonder how Dion Phaneuf feels about the way the Flames are playing. Hmmm….
FIGHT CARD:
A couple decent scraps tonight for your viewing pleasure…
UP NEXT:
The Flames visit the lowly Edmonton Oilers Monday night 12/28/09 @ 7:00 on Sportsnet. The Oil are coming off their very own loss to the Canucks, and with the way the Flames have been playing, have more than a puncher’s chance to take the Flames out. I will be attending the game, so YOU better smarten up Flames! You hear me?
RANDOM TIDBIT:
Flames prospect Greg Nemisz was the only Canadian held off the score sheet in Canada’s 16-0 thumping of Latvia at the World Jr’s Saturday. Canada will play Switzerland Monday @ 1:30 (MT) live on TSN.
