We&#8217;re just over two months away from the 2024 National Hockey League trade deadline on March 8. And, as you might imagine, the Calgary Flames are a team that&#8217;s getting a lot of attention due to their many high-profile pending unrestricted free agents.
Three current Flames appear high on The Fourth Period&#8217;s trade watch list: <a href="https://www.thefourthperiod.com/trade-watch-list-2024">Elias Lindholm, Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin</a>.

The watch list showcases 25 potential trade chips around the league. Lindholm was listed at 1, Hanifin at 2 and Tanev at 4. All three are pending UFAs. Lindholm has a $4.85 million cap hit, Hanifin $4.95 million, and Tanev $4.5 million. If you factor in the potential for the Flames to retain up to half of each of their cap hits, there&#8217;s the potential for plenty of contenders to vie for their services before the trade deadline.
Here&#8217;s the scuttlebutt on Lindholm:

Unless Lindholm changes his contract demands or the Flames decide to accept a $9M+ AAV on a long-term deal, an extension is unlikely and Calgary GM Craig Conroy will try to maximize a return for the top forward in the trade market.

Hanifin&#8217;s breakdown unfolded like so:

Hanifin held off signing an eight-year extension with Calgary at the start of the season worth a reported $7.5M per season. Teams know what he wants long-term, which might not help trade negotiations from Calgary’s perspective, but if the Flames can’t convince him to stay, either, they’ll look to move him.
