4 Nations Game Day: Canada and the United States clash for the championship (6pm MT)

Let’s call a spade a spade: the 4 Nations Face-Off has been a smashing success. The hockey’s been good and any fears that this would be a meaningless affair went out the window with the intensity and tenacity we’ve seen throughout this event.
The best game we’ve seen to this point was the battle between Canada and the United States on Saturday night, a narrow victory for the Americans. And now, we close out this event with a rematch between these titans, as Canada (2-0-1, 5 points) face the United States (2-1-0, 6 points) with a trophy and gold medals – and national pride – up for grabs. (For those curious, this game uses Stanley Cup playoff overtime format: if necessary, they go five-on-five and play until there’s a winner.)
Tonight’s broadcast begins at 6 p.m. MT on Sportsnet.

Jordan Binnington [50] is slated to start in net, backed up by Adin Hill [33]. The projected extras are Samuel Montembeault, Thomas Harley and Travis Konecny. They’re without Shea Theodore due to injury.
Canada’s currently led offensively by their oldest player, Crosby, but a couple things need to happen for Canada to win. First, they need to do a better job of getting in between the dots in the American zone and getting screens and deflections on Hellebuyck. Second, they need some of the other stars to be stars: Crosby can’t do it alone. The win against Finland was hopefully a hint that some of the team’s aces like MacKinnon and McDavid are ready to roll.

Connor Hellebuyck is slated to start in net for the United States backed up by Jake Oettinger [30]. The projected extras are Jeremy Swayman and Chris Kreider. They’re without Charlie McAvoy due to injury. Tage Thompson and Brett Pesce are in Boston as extras just in case the Americans fall below 12 healthy forwards or six healthy defencemen.
The big question mark for the Americans is health. When they’re at full capacity, they’ve shown to be a really formidable team. They made the Canadians play their style of game on Saturday and were rewarded for it. If they can pull it off again, and keep the Canadian attackers to the outside of the offensive zone, they could get a second consecutive positive outcome out of it.
